["Abdulai disappeared a few days ago......international war crimes tribunal.... wanted him to answer some questions"] Saturday February 12 6:00 pm Freetown I leave for Zanzibar tomorrow. I haven't been able to get in contact with Jen to confirm our meeting time. We picked out a hotel a week ago so I will just go there and wait for her. Abdulai disappeared a few days ago. Apparently the police or international war crimes tribunal or something wanted him to answer some questions. I don't know how this country is going to progress if the police have nothing better to do than harass a struggling local businessman. Claudia and Peter were happy with the rehabilitation of the new base. They said that the rehabilitation had come under budget and that for $6,000 USD I had done a good job. This wasn't really that true, there was another $16,000 USD of invoices from Abdulai he gave me a few weeks ago, but I didn't have time to ask for a money transfer from Anne and put all that stuff in the bookkeeping. I suppose I don't have to pay him now since he has skipped town and probably has other things on his mind. Well I managed to patch things up with Peter, I think he realises he has been a bit foolish in some of the things he said to me and he even liked the dark brown sienna cream I used for the interiors. Ricardo and Claudia spoke for two days about the water and sanitation programme and put the final touches to the programme proposal. I had a bit of a look at it and it seems really too long with lots of not so useful data and analysis. I could have written it in about two pages since it only comes down to building some wells and a few latrines. Petra has been pretty busy with the Mother and Child Health Clinic and found some space near the hospital and has managed to get some staff from the Ministry of Health and to get some community involvement. I think it would have been easier to just hire the staff. Well I will talk to you all after my holidays in a week or so. |
